Access to Internships (A2I) Program

Our mission for 2023 is to continue pushing forward our three pillars – unite, inspire, and advance. Part of that will be to connect our network with more internship and educational opportunities using the Access to Internships (A2I) program.

Background:

Most Uyghur youth in diaspora are recent migrants or are from migrant backgrounds and need support in terms of understanding the types of opportunities that exist, applying to those opportunities, and creating networks to further their career goals. Internships are an excellent way for students and recent graduates to gain training, development, and experience in roles where they and the people around them may have no experience with. However, access to these internships may be limited to Uyghurs due to:

1)    limited awareness from the community or the institutions they have access to in their new places of residence

2)    limited knowledge on how to apply and get into internships

3)    limited networks

These issues become yet another hurdle for Uyghurs in diaspora communities trying to establish successful lives after being cut off from their homeland, and for many, their families. An access to internships program will help at least one cohort receive the opportunities to achieve their goals and improve both their and their community’s quality of life.

A2I program:

Through the A2I program, we hope to provide support for young Uyghur/Turkic youth to gain professional work experience and develop networks. Thus, we will be facilitating access to internships at prominent national and international organisations. Once you apply to the A2I program, your application will be reviewed and you may be called for an interview. Successful applicants will be provided with training and guidance, and connected to an organisation that will be hiring interns from the A2I stream. We hope to provide interns for the summer and fall periods in 2023. There are very limited spaces so please be sure to apply soon.

Location:

As this is our first iteration of the program, we will be focusing on Uyghurs based in North America and Turkey. We hope to expand to other regions in the coming years! Opportunities will include both online and in-person internships.
