Standard Uyghur Curriculum

The Tarim Network is embarking on an exciting new project titled the Standard Uyghur Curriculum. The aim of the project is to create a comprehensive and standardised Uyghur language curriculum tailored for Uyghur children in the diaspora community.

 

Uyghur language schools face challenges in finding relevant teaching materials, creating homework exercises and effectively examining children’s Uyghur proficiency. The Standard UC would create a comprehensive grade 1-10 curriculum spanning the ages 5-15. This will consist of textbooks, exercise books and examinations for each grade level, enabling Uyghur language schools to deliver a comprehensive and consistent education.

 

Standard UC is a fresh, new project that started at the beginning of 2020. It is led by a team of passionate volunteers with relevant academic and professional experience in education and linguistics. Our team has been in close contact with a consultation group of teachers and principals from Uyghur language schools across the world to help us create the structure and content of the Uyghur language curriculum. We are pleased to have reached a stage whereby the Uyghur curriculum is taking real shape, and with this we are welcoming the help of passionate and dedicated volunteers.

Stakeholder

Role Description/Responsibilities:

  • Manage and organise different workstreams and teams to drive forward projects and achieve the set objectives

  • Liaising with other teams and ensuring clear and consistent communication across the Standard Uyghur Curriculum project

  • Opportunity to be involved in the fundraising process, which would include research of fundraising opportunities, managing application process and marketing

Essential Skills/Requirements: 

  • Communication skills

  • Ability to work and drive projects forward independently 

  • Familiar with Jitsi, Zoom, and other video conferencing tools

  • Fluent in English 

​

Desired Skills/Experience: 

  • Project management (not essential)

  • Fundraising (not essential)

 

Minimum Hours Needed Per Week: 2-5 hours/week
 

Activities Creator

Role Description/Responsibilities:

  • Use the content for the particular grade level created by the Content Creation Team to find content that is suitable for homework.

  • Organise the content in accord to the homework structure created.

  • Biweekly call with Activities Creation Team, and monthly call with the entire Standard U.C team.

Essential Skills/Requirements: 

  • Strong grasp of Uyghur language, meaning vocabulary and grammar.

  • Strong comprehension and analytical skills to find resources online that match the content used in textbook content reaction.

  • Strong grasp to use note taking online platforms like Pages, Word Document, and Google Drive.

​

Desired Skills/Experience: Background in education, particularly language education. Ability to understand English.

 

Minimum Hours Needed Per Week: 10-15 hours/week
 

Content Creator

Role Description/Responsibilities:

  • Use the Standards for the particular grade level created by the Standard Language Designers to find content that is suitable. 

  • Organise the content in accord to the structure created. 

  • Biweekly call with Content Creation Team, and monthly call with the entire Standard U.C team

Essential Skills/Requirements: â€‹

  • Strong grasp of Uyghur language, meaning vocabulary and grammar.

  • Strong research skills to find resources online. 

​

Desired Skills/Experience: Background in education, particularly language education. Ability to understand English.

 

Minimum Hours Needed Per Week: 10-15 hours/week

Role Description/Responsibilities:

  • Monitor content created by Content Creator with the standards created by Standard Uyghur Designers 

  • Make sure the structure is easy to understand and is cohesive 

  • Biweekly call with Editors Team, and monthly call with the entire Standard U.C team.

Essential Skills/Requirements: â€‹

  • Fluent in English.

  • Very strong grasp of Uyghur vocabulary and grammar. 

  • Familiar with English to Uyghur and Uyghur to English translation.

  • Good IT skills.

​

Desired Skills/Experience: 

  • Background in education, particularly language education. 

  • Textbook editing

 

Minimum Hours Needed Per Week: 5-10 hours/week
 

Standard Language Designer

Role Description/Responsibilities:

  • Translate English Language Standards for each grade level in Uyghur

  • Create substitutes for Uyghur standards when it does not translate directly

    • Particularly for grammar contents.

  • Biweekly call with Standard Language Design Team, and monthly call with the entire Standard U.C team.

Essential Skills/Requirements: â€‹

  • Fluent in English

  • Strong grasp of Uyghur vocabulary and grammar

  • Familiar with doing English to Uyghur translation

​

Desired Skills/Experience: Background in education, particularly language education. 

 

Minimum Hours Needed Per Week: 10-15 hours/week
