As a master's student at Ghent University, I'm excited to conduct the first-ever study on the Uyghur language in Belgium. I'm seeking native Uyghur speakers for a quick 15-25 minute online test. Besides that I'm also looking for a few Uyghur language professionals and enthousiasts to help me with a few transcriptions and translations (English-Uyghur or Turkish-Uyghur). Your participation will help us understand and promote the Uyghur language. Join me in this research and contribute to preserving our mother language! If interested, please contact: Iparkhan.Muzafarova@ugent.be

Dear Mr./Ms., I hope this message finds you well! My name is Soumia, and I am currently conducting research on the social and political developments in Xinjiang, specifically focusing on the experiences of the Uyghur population. I am reaching out to inquire if you or anyone you know would be willing to anonymously participate in a brief interview for my research. I am particularly interested in speaking with individuals who have been directly affected by the current policies in Xinjiang or those who have witnessed or experienced repression by the current authorities. If you or anyone you know is interested in contributing or has any questions, please feel free to reach out to me. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Warm regards, Soumia Contact through Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/soumia.elhadd

📣 We are proud to announce to you our #CallforPapers for the fourth #InternationalUyghurStudies: Thinking #gender and #queer theory into our approaches of #colonialism across #Uyghur contexts. 📅 Thursday 12 and Friday 13 of December 2024, at the Instituto de la Paz y los Conflictos, University of Granada, Grenada, Spain 🎓 Institutions organizing the event : - The Center of Research Middle-East Mediterranean (#CERMOM) of the #Inalco - The European Uyghur Institute (#IODE) - The Instituto de la Paz y los Conflictos - The University of Granada - The Faculty of Humanities of the Department of East Asian Studies, Geneva University - The Center of Turcic, Ottoman, Balkan and Central Asian Studies (#CETOBaC) of the #EHESS 💡 Reflection: This conference aims to encourage a reflection on the intersection between gender, sexuality, family and money for Uyghur women. It focuses specifically on deconstructing different aspects of the colonial project, directed and coordinated by the People’s Republic of China, such as patterns of domination affecting yerlik kinship networks. We wish to include a critical approach to the positionality of scholars working on these issues, while decolonising Uyghur studies through a reflection on the place of local researchers in this field, as well as on the power, or lack thereof, that these scholars have to define research methods, subjects of enquiry and framing, both within and outside the PRC from the 1950s to the present day. ✍️ To apply: Please send a 500-word abstract and a short biography (CV) to the following address before Friday 31st of May 2024: uyghur.studies@uyghur-institute.org. Notification of acceptance will be sent on Sunday 30th June 2024. Please find attached our Call for papers in our Linktree account: https://linktr.ee/uyghurinstitute

Documentary film project looking for artists to bring stories and memories to life (UNPAID). — Salaam! My name is Barnaby and I’m a film student in London with an interest in Uyghur culture. I will soon start filming a documentary around an upcoming Nowruz event in London, following an Uyghur friend of mine and his family as they make preparations. I intend a significant part of the film to be the older family members’ reminiscences of life in ET/Weten, and specifically of Nowruz. These will be illustrated by artwork and animations from members of the Uyghur community. There is no limit on how many artists may take part. I would love for this to be an opportunity for Uyghurs across the world to connect through their art and shared experiences. This opportunity is unpaid, but each artist will of course be credited in the film. If interested, please contact me via email (barnaby.w@hotmail.co.uk) or Instagram (barnaby_w). Rehmet, xosh!
