Documentary film project looking for artists to bring stories and memories to life (UNPAID). — Salaam! My name is Barnaby and I’m a film student in London with an interest in Uyghur culture. I will soon start filming a documentary around an upcoming Nowruz event in London, following an Uyghur friend of mine and his family as they make preparations. I intend a significant part of the film to be the older family members’ reminiscences of life in ET/Weten, and specifically of Nowruz. These will be illustrated by artwork and animations from members of the Uyghur community. There is no limit on how many artists may take part. I would love for this to be an opportunity for Uyghurs across the world to connect through their art and shared experiences. The Diasporas United: Cross-Movement Immersion Fellowship is a semester-long program that incorporates travel to Turkey, India, or Taiwan with the goal of deepening and sustaining cross-movement understanding and advocacy. In the weeks leading up to travel, participants will engage in training and mentorship opportunities aimed at familiarizing them with related movements and strengthening their advocacy skills. The Sigur Center seeks proposals for summer fellowships for George Washington University graduate students (M.A. or Ph.D.) conducting research on the history, culture, or arts of the Uyghur region and diaspora. These awards provide funding for travel, living, research, or tuition expenses. Preference will be given to students with a prior record of research and study on Uyghur issues. A Europe-based film team is currently preparing a feature-length fictional film project based on the true stories of two Uyghur journalists who played a major role in uncovering the genocide. The film explores their journey, the challenges they faced, and the impact of their work. They are looking to hire actors from the Uyghur community. Filming will take place in Europe in late 2024. Actors will collaborate with experienced Uyghur and non-Uyghur filmmakers, with extensive preparation and rehearsals before filming. Uyghur individuals are strongly encouraged to apply. Previous acting experience is welcome but not mandatory. All ages and genders are welcome at this stage. We have small and big roles to fill. You don't have to include your full name to contact them.
