Introducing Mastura, 25, a student at The University of Adelaide, studying a combined Masters and PhD in Clinical Psychology!
1. What are you passionate about? I am passionate about good coffee, but on a more serious note I am highly passionate about mental health education and helping people improve their wellbeing. I also want to normalise talking about mental health and seeking support in our Uyghur community.
2. How have you spent the last year? In the past year I have been writing up my PhD studies on the experiences of Uyghurs living in Australia and how they have been impacted by systemic injustice. I have also completed my coursework for masters and have been on various placements to develop my clinical skills.
3. What two subjects do you love talking about?
I love talking about religion and psychology and especially the intersection between Islam and psychology. I think we as a community and more broadly the Muslim community can reap great benefit from understanding how Islamic teachings and psychology can improve our wellbeing and our spirituality.
Comments? -Would love to get to know other Uyghurs studying psychology
