Introducing Berna, 19, a Molecular Biology student based in Calgary, and a volunteer here at the Tarim Network!
1. What inspires you the most?
I started volunteering at a rehabilitation centre this past summer, and just seeing people persevere and constantly push themselves, even when the results take time, is inspiring. The recovery process is difficult, but that kind of motivation and drive is amazing to see.
2. What is the most important lesson you have learned recently?
That we live and we learn. We’re going to make the wrong decisions sometimes, but I’ve learned that moving on and learning from it is so much better than dwelling on the past and resenting ourselves for it.
3. What are your short term goals?
To learn more about our Uyghur culture and history, and improve my speaking and reading skills. I’m also looking to get my foot into research this coming summer, so my goal is definitely to find someone who will take me on!
