Adila is currently a student at the The University of Adelaide. She just graduated from the Welcome to Australia Intercultural Futures Fellowship where she developed leadership skills while networking and organising events across Adelaide, such as the Walk Together in Unity Week 2018 with Welcoming Centre. She will now be mentoring the second cohort of the same program. Watch her speak about it here: Welcoming Australia
We hope to see more Uyghur youth taking the initiative to take part in leadership programs and becoming mentors!
Adila also plays an active role in the Uyghur community with the Uyghur Language School, activism, and People of East Turkistan. She can be seen performing Uyghur dance at cultural events such as Cultural Night organised by Adelaide University Rotaract Club or The Fragrance of River Muliyan Nowroz Music concert organised by @bmfoundationau and @SHEER Entertainment Australia, as well as performing poetry at open mic events and protests. She is often helping with organising and speaking at community events, such as charity fundraisers. Check out POET for more of their community building and activism work.
You can also keep an eye out for her writing as she will soon be publishing a narrative based on her mother and grandmother’s journey to Australia in the Roadrunner Review, a literary journal produced by La Sierra University! Read it here.
